Alabama’s Herbert Jones was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, while Nate Oats was tabbed the league’s Coach of the Year, as the league office announced the 2021 postseason awards on Tuesday.
What an incredible milestone for both men. For Nate Oats, it is third conference COTY award, having previously been the MAC’s COTY in 2018 and 2019. For Herb, already a Naismith and Defensive POTY award, it is an exclamation mark on his stellar, gritty career with the Crimson Tide.
But, Jones and Oats weren’t alone. Oh, no:
In addition to those honors, John Petty Jr. joined Jones as All-SEC First Team honorees, while Jaden Shackelford earned All-SEC Second Team recognition. Joshua Primo became the fifth straight UA rookie to earn a spot on the league’s all-freshman team, while Jones was also one of five named as an all-defensive team performer, earning the accolade for a second consecutive year.

A 16-2 SEC record, an SEC title, four players named to all-SEC teams, the SEC Player of the Year, the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and the SEC’s Coach of the year. We’ve not hit postseason play yet, but this season has already been a success by any metric.
Now, having signed Oats to a long-term deal, get that man an arena worthy of the teams the Tide are putting on the floor.

What a time!!
Well deserved for all the honors. The job coach oats has done in year 2 is nothing short of remarkable. Huge honors for Petty and Shack being named first and second team respectively, and then primo all frosh team. But for Herb to win POY and defensive POY in this league is an unbelievable honor. Nobody is more respected by the coaches than Herb Jones. We have been beyond blessed to have him in Tuscaloosa for the last 4 years. Also arkansas fans are big big mad on social media. Good!!! Fukkk em!!! Roll Tide!

Herb has 2 more assists, Herb has the better FG% shooting, Herb has the better 3PT shooting %; and Herb has the far better defending numbers.
