COMMIT: State’s Top Player Stays Home

New, comments

Alabama adds a quarterback’s worst nightmare.

To honor his mother’s birthday, Jeremiah Alexander announced his football commitment to play for the Crimson Tide in 2022.

Alexander is the top player in the state of Alabama as well as the nation’s top edge rusher. He is ranked as the 15th best overall according the the 247sport rankings. The 5-star prospect plies his trade at Alabama juggernaut Thompson High School.

Alexander finished last season with 31 tackles for loss, 10 QB hurries, nine sacks and three forced fumbles for the two-time state champions from Alabaster. He stands 6-2 at 235 pounds.

As one of the top edge rushers in the country:

Already fairly developed with well-proportioned muscle mass on a good-sized frame with long arms. Is advanced physically and looks to be ahead of the curve from a developmental standpoint. Has been a highly productive player for one of the top high school programs in Alabama. Is primarily deployed as a standup edge rusher. Plays with advanced strength with the ability to drive offensive linemen into the backfield and disengage on command. Also has high-level quickness and play speed both off the edge and in pursuit. Looks to play with a high effort level and finds several ways to impact the game. Despite being well-coached, will need to continue honing his technique as a pass rusher. It will be interesting to see where he ends up in terms of ultimate size over the next few years, as he could grow into a full-time edge defender or play as a space linebacker. Originally, he was offered around two and a half years ago and committed after Junior Day in March of 2020. However, he decommitted in October stating that he wanted to take more time to mull his decision. He also considered offers from a host of other program, ultimately picking the Tide over Clemson. Alexander visited the Alabama campus three times in June, which basically gave away his intentions. Freddie Roach is credited as lead recruiter on Alexander with Sal Sunseri on the assist.
