Alabama has pulled quite a few elite defenders from the DMV area in the past few years, from Jonathan Allen to Da’shawn Hand to Terrell Lewis and, more recently, Shane Lee and Chris Braswell. You can now add elite LB Shawn Murphy of Mannassas, Va. to the list.
Murphy is the #66 overall player on the 247 composite and the #8 ILB.
The young man certainly doesn’t lack confidence. From 247sports:
“I worked out and I for sure impressed all the coaches and opened a lot of eyes,” he said. “I also solidified why I’m the number one ‘backer on the recruiting board and why I’m one of the top defensive players as well. So I guess I could say I murdered it.”
Murphy sat down with Nick Saban as well.
“Me and Coach Saban connected and caught up and made sure I knew everything I need to know about Bama and made sure I knew everything academically and football-wise,” Murphy said. “He was very blunt and there was no lie with him. He watched me work out as well and he told me how impressed he was and said I’m more than fit to play here. It meant a lot coming from him because it shows all of my hard work has paid off.”
The 6’2”, 215 lb. Murphy has plenty of athleticism and will try to become one of the next great Alabama linebackers. Highlights are embedded below.

Kid absolutely looks the part. Plus the whole bigger, faster and stronger thing once he gets in the s&c program. Future 1st rounders keep landing in T-town and the dynasty may not be dead after all.

Bama is moving up fast in the recruiting rankings, at #5 overall and #2 in the SEC, with the highest average rating per recruit at 95.16. CNS just seems to get better every year.
